Description: Many of the basic tools reporters and journalists use everyday can help make the work of producing compelling, accurate, creative and timely blog posts more rewarding for bloggers and their readers. In this one-day workshop, bloggers will learn basic journalism skills for enhancing their blogs and producing well-sourced, accurate, original blog content.

As the lines between traditional journalism, citizen reporting, hyper-local news coverage and personal blogging blur at an exceedingly rapid pace, bloggers are hungrier than ever for original content, fresh sources, compelling photographs and engaging posts that will not only build loyal readerships, but also lead to new career opportunities and position them as experts in their fields. Aimed at dedicated bloggers who write frequently (for hire or on a volunteer basis), but lack formal journalism training, this workshop is for anyone seeking a crash course in professional reporting basics that can be used for covering news and events, identifying trends and interviewing sources.

We’ll discuss practical steps bloggers can take to report fairly and accurately without sacrificing individual voice, gaining access to events, handling factual errors and retractions, ethics questions surrounding issues such as pay-for-play coverage and industry “swag,” interacting with public relations, finding new sources and maintaining a supply of original content ideas.
