Description: If you’re stuck with a problem writing non-fiction—whether organizing an article, using quotes or dialogue, doing research, pitching a story, decluttering your prose, or just getting started—this is the class for you. The Non-Fiction Doctor will focus on whatever problems individual students bring in—for the benefit of everyone. We will use exercises, writing models, and workshopping to help you improve your writing habits. This class is for any non-fiction genre, whether memoir, personal essay, long-form journalism, magazine shorts, creative non-fiction, or travel writing, for both new and experienced writers.
Instructor Bio: Laura Fraser is an award-winning essayist and the author of the memoirs An Italian Affair and All Over the Map. Her articles have appeared in O, the Oprah Magazine, the New York Times, More, Ladies’ Home Journal, Salon.com, Prevention, Good Housekeeping, Tricycle Buddhist Review, and many other publications, including Best Food Writing and Best Women’s Travel Writing anthologies. Laura has taught magazine writing at the University of California at Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and at many other venues.
