Description: This four-week course provides students the training and skills to develop and express their political opinions for publication. Taught by award-winning journalist and author Christopher Cook—whose work has appeared in Harper’s, the Los Angeles Times, The Christian Science Monitor and elsewhere—this class will help students develop pieces for publication, and to develop, craft, and pitch their ideas. Students will also learn how to revise and edit their own work, how to frame and focus their pieces, and larger points about the craft of writing and of op-eds and other forms of political writing.
Instructor bio: Christopher Cook is the author of the acclaimed book, Diet for a Dead Planet: Big Business and the Coming Food Crisis. He has written for the Los Angeles Times, Harper’s, The Economist, Mother Jones, The Christian Science Monitor, The Nation, The American Prospect, The Progressive, Columbia Journalism Review and many others. He is a contributing writer for The Progressive. Chris has taught magazine journalism at San Francisco State University, and been a guest lecturer at numerous colleges.
